De’Longhi La Specialista Touch: guided semi-automatic espresso with automatic milk

La Specialista Touch EC9455M is for someone who wants the taste and involvement of a semi-automatic machine but does not want to learn everything by trial and error. Its 3.5-inch touchscreen provides real-time guidance for grind, dose, pre-infusion and temperature, while an automatic steam wand handles milk texture and temperature for you.

Bean Adapt guidance
Interactive help with grind, dose, pre-infusion and brewing temperature for your beans.
10 preset recipes
Hot coffee, Cold Brew and automatic milk drinks, all with extensive customization.
Automatic milk frothing
5 texture levels and 4 milk temperatures for dairy or plant-based milk.
15-setting grinder
Italian-made conical burr grinder with single/double dosing and up to 20 g dose guidance.

Who should choose the Touch?

Choose Touch if: you want to participate in espresso preparation but would appreciate visual coaching and automatic milk. It is especially compelling for a first semi-automatic machine because it explains the adjustments instead of simply giving you knobs and expecting you to know what they do.

Choose Opera instead if you prefer manual milk and assisted lever tamping. Choose Maestro instead if you want both one-touch automatic milk and a traditional manual steam wand, plus Smart Tamping and the broader premium workflow.

The key difference versus a fully automatic machine

Touch guides you, but you still handle the portafilter and participate in puck preparation. That means more control—and some learning—than a Magnifica, Rivelia or Dinamica.

Will it tell me how to correct a bad extraction?
Bean Adapt provides interactive guidance around grind, dose, pre-infusion and temperature so you can make logical adjustments.
Do I still tamp manually?
Yes. Touch includes a precision tamper and dosing guide with feedback, but not Opera/Maestro lever Smart Tamping.
Can it automatically froth oat or almond milk?
Yes. Auto LatteArt supports dairy and plant-based milk with five froth levels and four temperature settings.
Can several people save their settings?
Yes. It provides 4 user profiles and can save 6 bean profiles.

10 preset recipes

Espresso, Americano, Long Black, Cold Brew, Cappuccino, Latte, Latte Macchiato, Flat White, Hot Milk and Hot Water.

La Specialista Touch FAQ

1. Is Touch a manual or automatic espresso machine?
It is semi-automatic. You still use a portafilter and participate in puck preparation.
2. Does Bean Adapt change the grinder automatically?
It guides you through grind, dose, pre-infusion and temperature settings for the selected beans; you remain part of the adjustment process.
3. Does it make true Cold Brew?
Yes. Cold Extraction bypasses the normal hot thermoblock path and uses dedicated temperature, pressure and flow.
4. Is a milk pitcher included?
Yes. De’Longhi lists a milk jug among the included accessories.
5. Can I make latte art if milk frothing is automatic?
Yes. Auto LatteArt creates microfoam, but you still pour it yourself.
6. What is the maximum coffee dose?
The precision-tamper/dosing workflow supports guidance up to 20 g.
7. Touch or Opera?
Touch is easier if you want coaching and automatic milk; Opera is more traditional with Smart Tamping and manual steaming.
8. Touch or Maestro?
Touch prioritizes guided simplicity. Maestro adds Smart Tamping and the choice of automatic LatteCrema plus a manual wand.
9. Why is my Cold Brew warmer than expected?
If you brewed a hot drink immediately beforehand, run the cool rinse suggested by the machine. Use fresh cool water and add 3–4 ice cubes as De’Longhi recommends for the Cold Brew recipe.
10. Why isn’t the milk frothing properly?
Use refrigerator-cold milk around 4–6°C, choose the correct milk/froth setting and clean the steam-wand nozzle after every use. A blocked nozzle hole can reduce foam quickly.
11. Which plant milks work best?
De’Longhi specifically suggests soy, oat and almond among plant alternatives. Keep them refrigerator-cold and use the appropriate displayed froth setting.
12. Can I froth milk manually even though the wand is automatic?
Yes. Touch includes a manual frothing mode, letting you control wand position and vortex yourself when you want more hands-on texture control.
13. Why can espresso still taste sour or bitter if Bean Adapt is guiding me?
Bean Adapt gives a strong starting point, but bean age, roast, dose and taste preference still matter. Sour/fast shots generally need more extraction; bitter/slow shots generally need less. Change one variable at a time.
14. Does a bean profile mean those beans are physically loaded separately?
No. The six bean profiles store settings for different coffees; the machine still has one active bean hopper at a time.
15. How often should I clean the automatic steam wand?
Wipe it after every use and allow the automatic internal purge to run. Use the supplied cleaning needle if the nozzle opening becomes restricted, and follow the deeper-cleaning routine regularly.
16. What should I do before the first coffee?
Complete the machine’s guided setup/priming procedure, set water hardness, fill with fresh water and follow the display before dialing in beans. Correct first-use setup matters for both extraction and maintenance prompts.
