De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Manual Frother: automatic coffee, manual milk control

The ECAM29043SB keeps the convenience of a bean-to-cup automatic espresso machine but replaces the milk carafe with a traditional steam wand. It is the Magnifica Evo for someone who wants simple espresso and coffee at one touch, but prefers to froth milk manually.

6 one-touch recipes
Straightforward coffee choices without a complex touchscreen.
Manual steam wand
Texture dairy or plant milk yourself for cappuccino, latte and hot milk.
13 grinder settings
Built-in conical burr grinder for freshly ground coffee.
Compact automatic platform
1.8 L water tank, 250 g hopper and removable brew group.

Automatic milk carafe or manual frother?

Choose this model if: you mainly drink espresso/coffee, want to learn basic milk texturing or want easier milk-system cleaning. Choose ECAM29084SB instead if you want cappuccinos and lattes prepared automatically at one touch.

Questions customers ask us

Is the steam wand fully automatic?
No. You position the pitcher and control the milk texture yourself. The coffee side of the machine remains fully automatic.
Can I use oat, soy or almond milk?
Yes. A manual wand gives you flexibility with plant milks. Start with cold milk and a barista formulation when possible.
Is it easier to clean than the automatic-milk Evo?
The coffee-machine maintenance is similar, but the milk system is simpler: purge and wipe the wand immediately after steaming instead of maintaining a milk carafe and its internal passages.
What grinder setting should I use?
Start near the middle and adjust one step at a time while grinding. A finer setting can strengthen/slower extraction; a coarser setting can help if flow is too slow.

Magnifica Evo Manual Frother FAQ

1. Can it make cappuccino?
Yes. Brew the coffee automatically, then steam the milk manually and combine it yourself.
2. Is a milk pitcher included?
Check the current box contents shown with the product at purchase; a separate stainless pitcher can be useful for easier milk texturing.
3. Can I dispense hot water for tea?
Yes, the traditional frother can also be used for hot-water preparation according to the machine controls.
4. How do I keep the steam wand from clogging?
Purge it immediately after steaming and wipe the outside before milk dries. Follow the manual for periodic disassembly/cleaning of removable wand components.
5. Can I use pre-ground coffee?
Yes, for occasional single preparations using the dedicated pre-ground function.
6. How often should I clean the brew group?
Rinse the removable brew group regularly rather than waiting for a warning; weekly inspection is a good habit for frequent use.
7. What is the warranty in Canada?
De’Longhi Canada lists 2 years for fully automatic machines plus an additional year through qualifying registration. Keep your proof of purchase.
8. Is the manual-frother version better for latte art?
It gives you more direct control than an automatic carafe, but it is still a compact automatic-machine steam system rather than a commercial steam boiler. With practice, you can create finer foam and control the milk-to-coffee ratio yourself.
9. How cold should the milk be before steaming?
Start with refrigerator-cold milk. That gives you more time to introduce air and texture the milk before it becomes too hot.
10. Why am I getting large bubbles instead of microfoam?
Too much air is usually being introduced. Start with the wand near the surface, add a small amount of air, then position it slightly deeper to create a rolling vortex. Milk type and pitcher size also matter.
11. Can I steam milk while the machine brews espresso?
Treat brewing and steaming as sequential steps. This is not a dual-boiler café machine designed for simultaneous espresso extraction and steaming.
12. Can I use the pre-ground chute for decaf?
Yes. It is useful when regular beans are already in the hopper and you want an occasional single decaf without emptying the bean container.
13. What if my espresso tastes sour?
Use fresh beans, increase strength if needed, reduce excessive water volume and consider moving the grinder one step finer while it is running. Give the machine several drinks before judging the grinder change.
14. What if the espresso tastes bitter or barely drips?
The grind may be too fine or the brew path may need cleaning. Move one step coarser while grinding, clean the brew group/outlets and avoid making multiple grinder changes at once.
15. Can I make a large travel-mug coffee?
You can customize coffee volume within the machine’s range, but extremely large drinks can taste weaker if too much water is pushed through one dose. Two brewing cycles often produce a better large cup.
16. Is it a good choice if I rarely drink milk drinks?
Yes. In fact, this version makes particular sense for someone who mainly drinks espresso/coffee and wants the option to steam milk occasionally without maintaining a milk carafe.
17. How noisy is the machine?
Expect normal short bursts of grinder and pump noise plus rinse cycles. A new or unusually loud mechanical noise is different and should be investigated.
18. Should I use oily dark-roast beans?
Very oily beans can leave more residue in the hopper and grinder. They can be used cautiously, but medium to medium-dark beans are generally easier to keep clean in an automatic grinder.
